An Evening of Creating Holiday Cards for Seniors with Friends
On December 13th, the Southern California Chapter hosted a Saturday get together with friends and family where the entertainment was creating cards for seniors.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the service opportunities created by Gentle Generations is not only the chance to build connections and friendships through service, but also the way these activities foster creativity and initiative in youth to seek ways to serve even in everyday ordinary moments.
When the chapter leaders of Southern California met for a meeting to discuss their next project, one idea received unanimous appeal. Neighborhood families and friends were planning on getting together on Saturday, December 13th for dinner. Typically, a casual Saturday evening get together might involve, dinner, conversations and music. Seeing an opportunity to incorporate service into an existing gathering, chapter leaders proposed to change the invitation to include an element of purpose: an evening of creating cards for seniors.
It is exciting to see youth identify simple, ordinary moments and transform them into meaningful acts of service.
With parents invited to participate, friends and families gathered to create holiday cards which they delivered to their local senior retirement community.
